With ever-changing current and future power demands, C.E. Niehoff & Co. (CEN) has developed charging solutions to meet these challenges. We offer solutions for most alternate battery chemistries, including lithium-ion, where specific characteristics are required to perform at a high standard.
Our patented Li-ion charging algorithm features a proprietary current limiting technique rather than directly lowering voltage. We do this to offset the risk of alternator shutdown during battery open circuit voltage (OCV). Furthermore, the system also provides transportability state of charge (SOC) management, and batteryless management is maintained by implementing voltage filters*.
Data drives performance in almost every application, and CEN solutions gather critical information needed for Li-ion charging. For example, utilizing either J1939 or Smart Battery Sensor* to communicate with the battery, our units keep track of battery terminal voltage, current, maximum charging current vs. temperature/SOC, optional battery SOC and battery “contactor” state.

*In military applications, the batteries must comply with MIL-PRF-32565 Rev B or later to use CEN’s Plug and Play charging solutions for up to 16 Li-Ion batteries connected in parallel.
