The Protect and Grow Initiative
The Michigan Defense Center leads the state’s Protect and Grow Initiative, a comprehensive statewide effort for Michigan’s Defense, Defense Aerospace and Homeland Security Sectors.
The original plan established unity of effort among defense ecosystem stakeholders within the state and laid the foundation for Michigan to reinforce its legacy as the Arsenal of Democracy. The strategy was successful in increasing Michigan’s visibility and influence at the state and national level, which has resulted in new missions and funding for our defense assets.
Protect & Grow 2.0 builds on this success to match Michigan’s industries with the National Security Plan to increase contract spending to Michigan companies and expansion of federal missions.

The Michigan Defense Center is an operation of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

Proposal Writing Services Grant (PWS)
Every year, DoD awards billions of dollars in contracts to hundreds of Michigan businesses, supporting more than 100,000 jobs. To help your company get its share, MDC offers grants to assist Michigan companies in writing a bid response to DoD and DHS contract opportunities.
Grants are available for 50% (up to $10,000) of the cost required to hire a pre-qualified bid-writing firm.

Do you need a Commercial SCIF?
The Michigan Defense Center is investigating the need for, and potential investment in a Commercial Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) for our Michigan companies. A Commercial SCIF is a U.S. government–accredited facility where companies can view, discuss, or electronically process Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) that is part of a federal contract.
